Heron perched on a branch of a willow tree at the bridge over the Keil Burn in Lundin Links. It seemed quite unfazed by the constant stream of traffic just feet away on the road.

Some Speyside Birds
At RSPB Loch Garten the best views of the osprey nest, eggs and adult birds are from the webcams at the visitor centre. The above photo shows the osprey nest. Can just see the head of the adult bird in the middle of the nest.
A siskin on one of the feeders at the centre. Looks like it contains black sunflower seeds.
Great spotted woodpecker on another feeder.
A heron taken from the Heron Trail, Milton Loch at Boat of Garten.
Spot the treecreeper in these last two pictures, taken on the Speyside Way between Aberlour and Craigellachie.

Heron at Lower Largo Harbour
Usually the herons stand on the rocks opposite the harbour pier but this one was standing in the water.

Heron at the Keil Burn
A heron obligingly standing stockstill on a pipe across the Keil Burn by the bridge in Lundin Links. Almost as if posing for the camera.

Birnie and Gaddon Loch
Heron standing stock-still on a small island in Birnie Loch. I love the colours in the reflections in this photo. Birnie and Gaddon Lochs form a nature reserve in North East Fife. The reserve was created from old quarry workings.
Looking over Gaddon Loch to the Lomond Hills
Nice Autumn colour in a young viburnum tree.

Sunday Morning on the Beach
Sunday was a cloudy, misty but still day. I walked down to the beach at Lundin Links and walked towards the pier at Lower Largo. There were plenty of oystercatchers, black-headed gulls and some redshanks. I also saw this small group of waders. I am not very good at identifying waders, but I think these were knots. They were similar in size to the redshank but stockier with shorter grey legs, short straight black bill, grey back and pale breast.
I also spotted these two herons on the rocks opposite Lower Largo pier. One was in a hunched up pose and the other upright and elegant.

Warkworth Castle and the River Coquet
On the way back from our trip to Cambridgeshire, we broke our journey and stayed overnight in the excellent Warkworth House Hotel. Warkworth is a small town between Alnwick and Morpeth in Northumberland. It is dominated by a 12th Century Castle which was built overlooking a bend in the River Coquet. There is a very pleasant riverside walk and I think the best view of the castle is from this walk.
