Returning to Oban from Mull, turned South and visited Arduaine Garden, which is roughly half-way between Oban and Lochgilphead. It is now managed by the National Trust for Scotland. It is a lovely coastal garden, which benefits from the Gulf Stream. It has an impressive collection of Rhododendron species as well as several ponds and mossy wooded areas.
The heron pond.
The ornamental heron statue.
Marginal plants at the water's edge
From the high points of the garden there are lovely views over Loch Melfort....
.....and out to the Sound of Jura
Walking back to the car park spotted some orchids on the bank. I think they were probably early purple orchid (Orchis mascula).
