Alston and the South Tynedale Railway

The Market Cross at Alston.
Alston claims to be the highest market town in England, being about 1000 feet above sea level.
The signal box next to the station at Alston which is home to a narrow-guage railway running between Alson and Lintley through the picturesque South Tyne Valley.
The steam engine 'Thomas Edmondson'.

The South Tynedale Trail runs alongside the railway line giving good views over the river.
