The Romans built a bridge at this point so that Hadrian's Wall could continue on the other side of the North Tyne.
Looking from the western side of the North Tyne to a section of wall and the bridge abutment. The course of the river has changed since Roman times so that only the ruins on the eastern side can be seen.
There is a footpath from Chollerford through the fields to the abutment on the eastern side of the river.
On the eastern side part of the abutment and a fallen Roman column.
Looking back across the North Tyne to Chesters Fort. The river was swollen after several days of heavy rain.
